The games are grand, especially considering the audience they're being aimed at. Could they be better? Yes, but that's irrelevant became the things you claim as critical flaws were never selling points of the games. It was always the pokémn and world presented.
And for the record, for me Legends is the realisation of the mental image I'd had of the game world when I first booted up Red and realised it wasn't just a game on a dying console, but something special (this was pre-pokémaina-boom UK, by the way). That it basically has you do what Oak sends the player out to do with his digidex just hammers home the connections.
But sure, I don't like pokémon as I don't hate it as much as you do, right.
