Most don't use the entire party at once, a subgenre of JRPGs do but that's not a majority. Also turning it on and off is clearly better but not having the option isn't detrimental to the overwhelmingly vast majority of people and isn't a standard set by nearly any other game.

It's not easy designing a game for two separate level curves. Having an option there doesn't mean much when it means when one of the versions will be nigh unplayable and leave a bad impression on the people who chose wrong. Besides when a game is designed well the difference is negligible anyways, since difficulty does not come from how long it takes to grind

I didn't excessively do shit. You need to catch Pokemon to advance your rank and thus continue the story, and you need the trees to craft the Pokeballs to catch said Pokemon.
This is like overleveling by fighting trainer battles only, and it wouldn't have happened if the exp share wasn't mandatory.

I'm not representative of your average player, I'm self limiting, and yet it isn't enough. Why would your Pokemon even gain battle experience from you catching Pokemon? They should have given the trainer its own level, and make catching Pokemon level your own catching skills.

The problem with that is that quality beats quantity every time in sequential 1v1s, especially with a speed-dependent turn based battle system where OHKs are common. So there'd be no reason to have more than 1-2 pokemon
If double+ battles were the standard it could work

There's a reason every good difficulty romhack has started using exp share, and even going out of their way to hack it into games that didn't have exp all.

I personally don't like exp. share in it's newest and forced form because it makes it feel like a waste of time to use any other mon than my best sweeper most of the time. what's the point in battling with unevolved mon x when I can just sweep with my "ace" and everyone gets the same exp.
for me it takes away a lot of the feeling of actually training, "focusing" and putting time and effort into a mon. especially in older games it's actually a thing to have a leveled up team because you really can't just catch a mon and use it right away because the levels are so low (and no ev's I guess).
the newest exp. share makes me feel like I get stuff for free, like I can just park any mon in the back and in a few battles it's already evolved and ready to go without any effort.
not a fan.

I dont see a problem with xp share being always on, if the rate at which you gain xp is adjusted to it.

The old system is outdated and doesnt change anything on the difficult level of the game. Having xp share always on is a QoL improvement that is ultimately better for the games flow.

I wouldnt mind the option, but im happy that GF finally made a decision and tries to make it work.

It's been nearly 10 years of exp all, and the only time it's been balanced has been a game with barely over 20 trainer battles and exp gained after the battle is over as opposed to per-kill.

Why not? I played through half of Sword and all of BDSP without it and I was still within 3 or so levels of every important battle, be it above or below.
Literally just make it a toggle, there's no reason not to when they add something as superfluous as a toggle for the nickname prompt.

When I first noticed daycares in gsc I was expecting them to someday add in-party training where you'd spend time with your team itself organically raising up the weaklings in your party by being guided by you and your aces, having them teach eachother moves, etc. Since then I and many others have thought of countless ways the team could grow outside of rationing battle exp.
But instead what we get is lead Sweepmon magically putting exp into the party instantly with every KO, which for immersion is only marginally better than Sweepmon swapping in for lead Weakmon to magically give them exp.

Can you elaborate on this one? You can pretty much play through every game with just on mon, especially in newer games, where the coverage is just better.

Exp.All doesn't mesh well with how these games are designed, and the game design has only just started changing to accommodate the lack of an option.

I should also add that with the inclusion of exp all, normalfags have begun to use their non-starter team as fighters instead of just revive sluts.

I like new exp share because i always used to basically only use my starter in old pokemon games and at most one more pokemon that i wouldn't care to level up properly
This at least encouraged me to keep a varied team and use whatever one i wanted whenever because when i switched out of my starter i would know that i wouldn't have to use an extremely underleved one

If you make it optional, people will feel compelled to play with it off, exposing to the average player the boredom of grinding just to beat the elite four, but you let long time fans level up just enough so not to be overpowered.
If you force it on, normies can push forward without repetitive grinding, but long time fans must take other measures to stay on fair footing.
So as the developer, which sounds like an easier situation to control?

Add it as an option, but make accessing that option so obtuse that normalfags won't notice it to keep them from feeling self conscious about using it.
Something like an NPC in the second village that gives the player a dialogue prompt, and the player must type in a specific phrase to disable exp all.

it's obviously not the best comparison, but they really could have gotten rid of permadeath, they sort of have, with a twist (mila's turnwheel). but you can choose to not use it.
