>>49401552Because Pokemon is a 3D game now, so a Pokemon's animations can tie heavily into its design. The best example of that is Trumbeak, where it looks like a normal toucan until you see it in motion and see the thermometer beak. With older designs, it was really hard to convey certain aspects of a Pokemon just from its design (look at the sheer number of people who still don't realize Purugly's tail acts like a corset to hold in its fat, so the entire "joke" behind the Pokemon is lost). Now they have more freedom to make designs like Hisuian Goodra or Lilligant where the way they move is a big part of their gimmick. You could see it really well in this game, in particular, where Voltorb and Zoroark got entire shorts so that people could see them "in action".
Also, those Pokedex renders just fucking suck.
