As a feature of Poke Balls, not something the Pokemon themselves do. Otherwise Pokemon would abuse the fuck out of this by using to hide/flee or to dodge attacks

That didn't need to be explained. We had no problems understanding that Pokemon fainted and then either got recalled to their Poke Balls, and that wild Pokemon just ran away when KO'd.
