>>49430391>Something like that. I feel really happy that I pull something rare but then I look what they fetch for and it makes me feel like the card isn't that rare to get at allYou shouldn't base your enjoyment on that. I understand that it is hard not to, especially with how hyper-aware everyone is about the prices of cards these days. But that's why you should open packs for fun, and buy singles for satisfaction.
Also, rarity and current value don't always align. If people don't want it, they won't be spending a lot to get it. For example, to pull the specific VMax alt art that you want, it would take you, on average, opening just about 2100 packs. Which is crazy. Yet, the price of the VMax alt arts aren't all identical. People want Rayquaza and Umbreon the most, and those two are the most expensive and will likely stay the most expensive as they eventually rise further and further over the next few years.
There is even more variability in the V alt art cards. Sandaconda V alt art costs like $10. It's still ridiculously difficult to pull and you would be spending thousands on packs before you were mathematically likely to pull it. But it's still that inexpensive because it's not wanted by most.
For reference, vintage packs had a pull rate of ~30-33% for holofoils. Meaning you could pretty much guarantee that you would pull at least one Charizard AND complete the entire base set in just 3 booster boxes.
