>>49415418>>49415432This is straight up divide and conquer and probably a discord narrative itself. There's almost an entire overlap between fans of Johto and Unova. There's no feud between the two. At this point there's only genuine fans of the series and the shills who either tolerate or outright love the casualization of recent games in exchange for flashy colors and cutscenes and marketing gimmicks. There's a third group of genuine "genwunners" who still whine that anything past Mew is not canon even though they won't pull their heads out of their ass to see that they're wrong and they won't fuck off either.
Aside from that, the different generations are just pitted against each other in genwars in any direction possible but the common theme is to highlight minor issues as major and ignoring the positive attributes. While for Gens 6-8 (and as of late I would even dare to drop Gens 6 and 7 from this group), they exaggerate any good traits about the game or outright pretend that they had a meaty amount of content when they didn't, and dismiss the fundamental flaws as just entitled nitpicking. They'll shit on any of the other gens and maybe even talk up another to peddle this narrative.
Not sure how I feel about PLA yet because I haven't played it yet.
