Why do even some of my fellow SWSH haters like this game? Is just changing the formula enough for you. Because it seems just as shallow if not more shallow than the normal Pokemon formula. You can chose moves have 2 variations fast vs strong big whoop

It is true open world, and not the fake shit that e-celebs think open world is.
There is a multitude of ways you can complete the story and you have the freedom and agency to approach every objective and sidequest your own way. That is open world.

as a kid you imagine pokemon in a 3d setting with free roam catching, thats basically what this is. animations have increased quality tenfold from SWSH and the game is really built on exploring too. the map isn't small and several ingame progression tools make you explore most nook and crannies. you remember how they said that in BOTW if you want to do something you'll get distracted on the way and do 50 things before your actual goal? its true of this game too. the lack of pokemon is because this game really focuses on the "catch em all" aspect and level obeying is capped at how many pokemon you have in the pokedex.

it's not the best game ever but it's certainly good, I suggest giving it a shot on Ryujinx

See that sounds like garbage to me. You can focus in on the "catch em all" thing with a full dex is you really wanted.

Eh I see this argument made a lot and it's only because the world is split into 5 separate areas that unlock in story beats. Each of those areas are true open worlds. There are no restrictions on where you can go in each one if you have the first mount to jump over things. And later mounts just make this easier.

The battle system changes bother me more than this yet nobody mentions it. Sleep is "drowsy" now and it's just a chance you can't attack, rather than no attacking at all while asleep. And confusion as a status doesn't exist.

I think it has a decent amount of mons. I just don't like the choices that much. And it's annoying seeing stantler and paras in every area but that's not a number issue as much of a monster choice issue.

That all being said I just like the way everything is presented now. I like seeing every mon on the overworld and choosing whether to try and sneak up on it to catch without battling or just battle to weaken it or outright kill it. And it's so smooth, press L or R to choose your pokemon to send out then just send it. No menuing to switch pokemon. Or press X to switch to throwing items instead and find out what food each pokemon likes.

The battle system is not being carried over at all. They made the changes so that people would need to use more than a single braincell when battling wild Pokemon, since that's 95% of what you fight in this.

I doubt no abilities or held items will be carried over either. But yeah with the 'see how long you can go with the items you have, forage, and craft on you' gameplay I do find wild battles more difficult than they have been before, or at least im using more potions and revives than I ever had. Especially when ganged up on in a 3 on 1 battle or fighting an alpha.

You liked safari zones in previous gens? Then Arceus is basically 5 big safari zones, mostly with pokemons at fixed location instead of random encounters over grass and no time limit.
The focus of the game is catching pokemons, not so much for the battles even with the new styles mechanic.
There is some nice QoL changes but I wouldn't call this game a change of formula.
If you like catching you will love this game.
If you wanted battles, contests, petting or whatever improvements over activities you do with your own team of Pokemon, you will probably not like this game.
