What is the best team and method for trivializing a vanilla Emerald run?

I do like the game, but I've only beaten it once, compared to dozens of times for other mainline games. I tend to lose interest either as soon as I get to Mauville, or - if I make it through that, as soon as I learn surf and can leave the main island for the first time.

I'd like to just do a solid run through of the game without much resistance or forethought
