Why are Pokemon fans so defensive over this franchise? Dismissing criticism of things that no other franchise could get away with as "toxic"?

It's literally just people on twitter. And this isnt to single out the website but it's the only place where the defenders so greatly outnumber the unsatisfied people.

Most Pokemon fans ONLY have the mental capacity to play Pokemon, so they're gonna spend a huge margin of their life on anything that's related to these critters as you can imagine. Basically just a singular snide remark about the franchise crushes their entire pride because it's the one thing in their miserable existence that's stopping them from committing suicide. Pokemon can quite literally a person's entire life and sometimes the rest, too.

Because the criticism is often hyperbolized and exagerated to get posts to respond to it. This polarizes the entire discussion and leads people who think the games could be better but are still fun to naturally seem like their condoning.

The way people hold on to the forced exp share not being an option because 'other RPGs do it' shows pretty well that these posters don't actually play other games outside of Pokemon. They think those games doing it validates their series but haven't even tried them.
