The faint animation for plenty of games also show the pokemon turn into blue light or energy and not shrink. It's just how they decided to represent the pokemon returning to the ball. Do you think the move animations are the canon way the moves are actually done?

So the Pokeball shrinks the pokemon with energy and encapsulates it as some form of data that can be stored in a PC. Sometimes Pokeballs store items too and items can be transferred to and from PCs as data, similar to Pokemon? Am I getting this right?
