They're not exactly the most well-adjusted people. Anything that seemed genuine was likely quietly dealt with by sending it to authorities and pretending it didn't happen as to avoid making a scene.
Pokemon's fanbase is some of the worst that humanity has to offer when it comes to autism and other mental illness, there's no way absolutely everyone would be completely satisfied with the games every time a new one is announced. Just take a look at this board for a week. But Dexit was a special case because it pissed off so many people in a way the fanbase has never seen before. There's no way death threats WEREN'T sent. The fact this is being questioned is telling about how naive you are about just how bad the Internet is.
