It's also a regional form. Which means its implied they changed in the environment and those that couldn't change died off, why did Kanto Weeding die off and stop being the Evo if they're fundamentally just a big Koffing which is completely fine with survival in Galar. Either Koffing should change or Galarian Weezing shouldn't exist.

Because the preevolutions were designed with the OG final form in mine. Samurott and maybe Decidueye you could make the case for, but Typhlosion randomly switching flames, Cubone randomly losing it's Ground typing, and Mime Jr. going from Psychic Fairy to Ice Psychic makes no sense. They aren't coherent lines, they're a coherent line with an uncomfortable detour shoved in the middle.
