Depends. I don't like using anything that has less than 85 accuracy because it becomes too unreliable. But sometimes you have to run something like focus blast for coverage because there's nothing else that's better.

Neither. If they are your only option you should use them. People wouldn't use Focus Blast if they had access to Aura Sphere, simple as. There's a reason everyone uses Ice Beam over Blizzard.

Incredibly based for the single player, cringe for the multiplayer. I used a miltank with iron tail and dynamic punch in crystal and had a blast, accuracy really doesn't feel bullshit in the single player where usually missing once doesn't mean being crippled in the long run, and whenever it does lead to loss you can just try again. For multiplayer purposes however, moves like focus miss are ridiculous and aggravating because you JUST fucking want to deal some reliable fighting type special damage but nah, fuck you, it missed, now you lose

it's generally for breakpoints.
if you can two-hit something important with fire blast that would take three flamethrowers, it's a no-brainer to take fire blast.
even if you miss one of them, you're still breaking even.
same goes for hydro pump.

If the accuracy is ~85ish it can be worth it because common threats it can guarantee OHKOs or 2HKOs against that say, Flamethrower couldn't. 85% to kill is greater than 0%, you know?

Yeah but you can miss it 3 times/2times so you don’t break even all the time. It’s a better feeling to loose because you just couldn’t win rather than loosing because you missed a move.

i get that you have a weird hangup about inaccurate moves, but you asked why people use them and it's because they're objectively better overall.

How would you feel if high base power low accuracy moves were replaced with more moves like steel beam/rock wrecker/close combat where high base power is balanced by recharge time or stat penalties instead of accuracy?

I get your point, but I think it depends both on the type of match and your team strategy/composition.
If you're playing on a tournament or a one-off match where a single loss equals defeat, you're often better playing it safe and taking less risks, while if you're laddering and taking hundreds of battles, the odds even out and you're usually better having an extra win condition.

About the team comp, if OHKO/2HKOing a certain Pokémon is vital for you team (i.e. it is your only way to deal with an important threat or it's one of your biggest wincons), you're better picking up the high power move. If you have other ways to deal with it or weakening it out is "enough", you can choose the weaker one instead.

I like those more because there's actual risk and strategy involved rather than 'lol you miss'. If I've used a couple of Close Combats and my defense is bottomed out, there's thought that goes into should I switch out or risk another shot.

I think it's more a failure of your team comp if KOing a certain Pokemon is so crucial that you need to rely on unreliable moves. And if we're talking hundreds of battles your average damage will always be higher with the high accuracy moves.

these are the worst moves out there, they might as well say "you lose the battle if you click this"

not risks or tradeoffs in any way, you don't need health if you're OHKOing before you take damage, same goes for defenses.
they're just straight upgrades, no one runs brick break if they can run close combat, no one runs fire punch if they have flare blitz, etc.

Wrong, it depends. Accounting for the accuracy:

>Fire Blast
110*0.85=93.5 BP (better than Flamethrower)
>Hydro Pump
110*0.8=88 BP (worse than Surf)
>Stone Edge
100*0.8=80 BP (better than Rock Slide)
>Focus Blast
120*0.7=84 BP (better than Aura Sphere)
>Iron Tail
100*0.75=75 BP (worse than Iron Head)
>Gunk Shot
120*0.8=96 BP (better than Poison Jab)

Of course, Hurricane, Blizzard and Thunder don't count as they are supposed to be balanced around being perfectly accurate in certain weather conditions.
