So will this be the foundation for the mainline games going forward or will the experience these games offer remain mostly outside of the main titles?

It's probably easier for them to make normal mainline games and then release a bunch of Legends games about other regions. You can't make it open world like this unless it's empty given how technically challenged they are.

It honestly would feel nonsensical to go back to the standard gameplay systems after arceus. All the core elements that make pokemon games what they are, are still present in PLA. PLA should be the groundwork to build off of, not a standalone title to be forgotten or limited to spinoffs.

That health bar for the enemy looks so much better. With the letterboxing they give to battles, it's easy for it to be entirely obscured for larger Pokemon.

I wish, but unfortunately not. They're going to take 1 superfluous feature and add it last minute to the next game like they did overworld encounters into SWSH.

The styled battle is probably just a gimmick, time still freezes around the battle so the old system could easily be slapped back on with all it's shit easily. Battling online would just require bringing the normal battle style back.
Not sure why they even bothered with this thing since they chose to gimp so many aspects of battle instead of actually working them into this system. Guess they wanted to try experimenting with battles the way they experimented with catching in lgpe.

The actual physical implementation of the battles is perfect. But I don't know how I feel about strong/agile style and action speed rather than just "faster Pokémon goes first" battles. The old way was simpler and more fun to strategize with imo.

That's just the gimmick, same as Z-moves or Dynamax or whatever. They had to do something low effort and Japanese-themed. It's definitely not leaving PLA even if they keep everything else going into gen 9.

PLA got stale during my first playthrough. Still haven't had the motivation to keep playing after the 4th area. At least mainline games have shitty new towns to visit. This game is just shitty generic open world area after open world area where you throw balls at monsters that will never leave your storage box

What would PLA 2 even be about? The exact same game but with a different starting town and dex? Might as well just make an actual fucking game and make use of the new catching mechanics

Won't change mainline games, they will stay the same forever, it's too easy to do and make huge bucks easy. Also, it's a spin-off since we focus on the past of the original games, even though Legends is and will probably stay a main series for a long time if it sells well, so it's rare when game like these have a direct impact on the mainline ones.

I hope they keep the battle mechanics but on the original formula. I really don't want to do a bunch of collect quests on a empty open world over and over again. But getting rid of HMs/gimmicks by throwing things around and having battles anywhere is pretty good.

The battles actually taking place where they start is great. Walking around during them is weird since there's nothing to do. They should've kept throwing balls real time during battles with full aim control instead of the old camera cut.

I'm not sure about that. The thing with styles was also used with Urshifu. And it was also part of the card game. What we see in PLA is likely the olden names forr Single Strike and Rapid Strike.

I want them to go the route where legends style games are the new mainline releases and they just have a comprehensive online service for comp. Like stadium. It would be awesome if they added regions through updates added skins and even included modes that allow you to try different comp formats. Like legends comp or swsh comp, it would be a lot like showdown but I think it would be amazing
