Also, not sure what gameplay features have to do with anything in terms of being a prequel.
And the evolutions are justified by "they became extinct" and then the next game will be like "oh, turns out they were hiding in a cave/we rediscovered the way to evolve them" followed by meta logic that you transported them with you from the past (via Home).
It's like questioning why the National Dex adheres to Professor Oak's numbering system when we get told that various Pokemon in other regions are from way before he had Red record data. Or how babies somehow never got observed before, and trainers not bonding enough for happiness evolutions, or why the fuck Mewtwo is before Mew if in lore Mew was obviously discovered first for them to clone it.
If Sinnoh is where creation myth started, why are Sinnoh's Pokemon not first?
These are not PLA exclusive issues with the series lore. It will never make sense if you try to rationalize things like that.
