Giovanni doesn't give a fuck as long as it's just know-nothing grunts. If it were any of his more trusted confidants in the elite rankings, he'd definitely make sure they're taken care of so his operations don't have a chance to get leaked and fucked up.

This is the actual sad thing. Obviously there's plenty of forgotten characters, but something like this pretty much guarantees they'll never appear again, at best they will get a few seconds of screen time if the anime ever ends and they do a recap of all or more relevant characters.

Honestly, I'd rather them have closure like this where we get to know what they're doing for the rest of their cozy lives instead of just assuming they're still jobbing for TR or off doing who knows. At least if they never appear again, we know what they're up to and that they moved on instead of being left in limbo

Dawn's reappearance was far more sad. At least Butch/Cassidy got their happy end. Dawn never won at anything, went back home and is now repeating the Sinnoh contest circuit.
Her counterpart in the AU also never won a single league, placing second at her highest.
It's like time started again for Ash once he won the Alola League, but not for everyone else.

It was established back in Johto that the only reason Jessie and James were even still on the payroll was because Team Rocket was bleeding members and they needed all the manpower they could get (Butch and Cassidy quitting seems to reinforce that idea). And Giovanni only promoted them in Unova because they "defeated Team Galactic". My guess is Giovanni just had one of his elite squads quit for the third time, needed a replacement, and decided to try Jessie and James to see what happened since they seemed to be accomplishing shit. Plus, they'd been around forever, so he doesn't have to worry about them quitting.

No, but I think if it ever happens it'll be the climax of the franchise.
Giovanni is more powerful in the anime that he was in any of the games, even considering the Rainbow Rocket incarnation.

They were also credited with defeating Team Flare as well, and Matori confirmed TR's story about their role in defeating Zygarde.

Isn't Pokemon one of the biggest animes with like famous Vas as the main characters ( Aoi Yūki, Mamoru Miyano, Yūki Kaji, even now with Kana Hanazawa.) I can't imagine one turning down pokemon.
