I'm slowly filling out my checklists and I've quickly realized that catching the pokemon is pretty much the only thing that has you interact with them beyond just wanting them on your team. The pokedex is the only thing that keeps you wanting to catch each pokemon, but after you get 1, i dont rly find many reasons to catch a duplicate.
Once I was finished catching my 10 bidoof I didn't really have any reason to keep 'em around, so I just released em. Thing is pokemon has always struggled with making duplicate mons seem worthwhile. Unless you're going for a living dex or just REALLY need that ability or nature (which for pretty much every game these things will never be a make-or-break for a win) there's no real reason to get them beyond extrinsic things like shinies or marks(marks were a SwSh exclusive element anyway).
They could've given you an objective like "Level up 5 Bidoof 5 times each" to make each one seem more important on it's own, although that also sounds really tedious and not fun at all.
