It's the same but you can see the Pokemon on the field. Same thing happened with Lets GO IIRC but that was even easier because the top down angle made you look at pretty much every Pokemon that was on camera so missing them was way harder than it is in PLA

It's really not. I've gotten 12 in 2 days with minimal effort. It's good for people who want lots of shinies but they've essentially killed any type of dopamine with getting one. With the shiny charm you can run around the field 2 or 3 times and walk away with a full odds.

You mean using them to get you shinies?
>go to locale where the outbreak is taking place
>save at camp
>head to the outbreak
>check to see if the first initial 4 are shiny
>if not, reset game
>head back to jubilife
>head back out, your desired outbreak Pokemon should still be there on the map (if not, just reset and head back to jubilife over and over until it does pop back up)
>save again at the camp
>go to the outbreak again and check the first initial 4
And then just keep resting/going to jubilife/saving at camp to “chain”

I'm really confused by it. My first day playing, I got two full odds shinies. I played two more days, explicitly looking, and found none.

I played yesterday and found five. Two full odds by mere chance, and three from mass outbreaks.

It rolls every time a pokemon seed is made which happens every time you load into the map, recalculating the formula that gives the shiny id number however many times based on the chart.
Basically in retard terms just means that when a bidoof spawns it will roll a “dice” X number of times to see if it lands on your special shiny number.

when you complete a pokedex entry for a pokemon the rate skyrockets. you can farm them en masse now if there is an area with a lot of them now. found 2 shiny goomy in less than 40 min.

You get an extra roll for getting dex level 10 that’s not skyrocketing. You still only get 2 more for 100%ing a dex entry. 4 total.
It does skyrocket when you are using outbreaks though

if you complete the dex entry it's permanent. It's boring to complete the entry (catching 25-50 and defeating 25 depending on the pokemon, sometimes have to evolve multiple times). Once you complete it though, just run to the area, check for shiney, travel to camp, sleep, repeat. This is only worth it for pokemon that are easily farmable though.

“doubling” it doesn’t mean much when it’s literally just one more chance to get a shiny when a pokemon spawns. The “odds” way of showing shiny chances really confuses people into not thinking about how shinies actually work

My main issue is that shinies don’t sparkle periodically like they do in lgpe where you KNOW it’s a shiny. Especially with a 360 camera you could miss the initial sparkle and not notice. Some shinies have a starkly improved visual look like eevee imo but others I feel you could miss without a periodic sparkle especially if it’s kind of far away. like I’m pretty sure I walked by a shiny bidoof at sunset once because I wasn’t totally sure and I was on my way somewhere already.

it's not necessarily luck, it's the fact that pokemon can spawn in multiple at a time instead of one at a time, and spawning in doesn't take 20 seconds every single time. Let's Go was the exact same, because Pokemon are showing up as shiny on the overworld, they're a lot more common and a lot easier to find.

The sound also might be a little subtle and blend into other sound effects and parts of the music too. Not seeing the initial spawn sparkle effect really fucking sucks. Shit will spawn over a hill or off screen and you don’t get that sparkle visual and for some reason they thought it was a good idea for it not to do other sparkle effects after spawning

It is a little interesting that the base rate was kept the same even though it's functionally a lot higher since you encounter Pokemon much more often. Maybe they didn't want to risk increasing it after only lowering it over the years.

Not true. The rate is 1/4096, but you get extra rolls for meeting certain conditions:

Add an extra roll each.

Even without extra rolls though it is true you are seeing far more Pokemon at any one time.

If I'm super desperate I'll catch/kill the initial 4, but I never save afterwards if I don't find any shinies. If I don't find a shiny, I just reset the game immediatly, go back to Jubilife, and save at the next outbreak site

Like if you can stand in a bush and catch 12 yanma with no issue then sure clear them out, but a group staraptor on a tiny island with no way to sneak around is going to take too long fighting them every time

there's 12 pokemon per outbreak, so basically you only have to catch till only 3 remain, after that you're not getting anymore and have to reload.

if you say caught 5 then saved, then only 7 pokemon will appear in the remaining outbreak form then on. so a save saves the current amount of the outbreak, so typically people save at the very beginning of doing the method for full 12 potentials.

I spent time in the past few days completing the pokedex for some pokemon in the beginning area.
Bidoof, Ponyta, Starly, Buizel, Shinx, Drifblim ect.
now every time i go in there are around 70 pokemon i could pass in a small 7 min loop.
70/1024 is about 14ish loops. i found a shiny within 30 mins.
could be really good luck or it may be a more optimal shiny hunting method than outbreaks IMO, it just takes time and grind to set up, then again so is doing the same repetitive task is very similar to doing the same repetitive task anyways.

doubt it. i had a drpion outbreak that only had about 6 instead of the 12 after beating them once and saving after an alpha.

but other than that instance why would you catch 5, then save? there's no point in saving post-seeing the outbreak. you either got the shiny, or you didn't that run.

Caught 7 went back reset map and there were less than 12
but my catching one, even 2 at one point, and repeated saving has somehow not resulted in having less than 12
Maybe I randomly got a fresh eevee outbreak after my last catch (where I caught 2) and it replenished them but that’s weird

You need level 10 for everything to get the shiny charm. But if you do everything you get a "perfect" and it gives you like 2 extra rolls. It barely affects the outcome in any meaningful way.

It changes depending on what you do making it easier, getting a pokemon up to research level 10 makes that pokemon easier to find shinies, getting the research for that same pokemon perfected by completing all the research task increase odds even more, and once you get research 10 for every pokemon you get the shiny charm, increasing odds more, then there's perfected research level plus shiny charm being the max odds. There's also mass outbreak odds but I don't know to much about that

the only remotely difficult ones are the distortion Pokemon and the baby Pokemon that don't have any research goals like "use pound 20 times" or shit like that, you need to find them in the wild, feed and catch them, and evolve them. and since they're rare spawns that can potentially be very time-consuming.

Probably because from like gen 7 onward GF actually started designating a pokemon's shiny colors as part of their design process, beforehand they would just move the color hash number up a set amount which is why there are so many puke-green shinies

That is a valid method it just takes longer than only checking the first 4 and tping back to camp/jubilife then back out. Depending on how much extra time it takes you could be seeing fewer spawns per hour than if you just do the 4 check.

The outbreak spawn is pretty far so I think it's faster to get all 12 rolls by spamming Ultra Balls at everything than doing a restart each 4 rolls.

I wish I could find an alpha Rotom. I was grinding an outbreak for hours yesterday and couldn't find one. I gave up after a different outbreak I wanted took its place.
