it was the point where the series was at its most stagnant. still using 4 direction movement, the sprites were shittier than ever, somehow the graphics were even worse than gen 4, less exploration, a bunch of removed features, shit post-game. etc. Every other generation contributed more to progressing the series than gen 5 did.
