I've been trying to do the Mass Outbreak reset method but it seems like literally nothing changes every single time I return from the village. It's the same exact number of Pokemon in the same exact place with no changes whatosever.

Did I do something wrong or is this just to be expected?

most effective method is save at camp in area -> go to outbreak and catch/kill everything -> if no shiny, reload your save and go back to the village -> go back to area -> save at camp again -> check outbreak again -> repeat
if there is no outbreak after you reload and go back to the village, reload again until its there. ive done 3 successful outbreak hunts and it always shows up again within a few resets.

Save in jubilife I think that might save the current outbreaks? Then check both to see which has a location easier to get to
When this happened to me I was already saved in a map of an outbreak and could check the others location before switching
You can always grind the other later

Need advice for what to do because feeling overwhelmed

On one hand I could go take on that 3 vs 1 battle before Electrode
On the other hand I could go toughen up my team and add a ground type
One the other other hand I could go shiny hunting apparently it's' easy enough to d now
On the other hand I culd catch and evolve more pokemon to fill up the dex before I go further in the game
On the other hand I could start doing some side quests

There's so much to do I flat out can't decide what to do and it's starting to damper my experience especially team wise because in this game speed plays by it's own rules and just because your level is high doesn't mean an Alpha pokemon won't kick your shit in, those bastards have type coverage, high EVs and most likely a beneficial nature, to make it worse some of those Alphas flat out cannot be caught until you reach a certain point in the game, when trying to focus on them the capture rating marker will just flash an X with a red mark showing you cannot capture that pokemon no matter what right now, Had it happen to Rapidash, Snorlax and Empeolon, I haven't beaten Frenzy'd Avalance yet so I assume it means weithery our rank or plot advancement holding you back

Size affects health and speed.
The bigger the pokemon the more HP it has but the slower it is.
Biggest of alphas will have a ton of health but enemies will frequently have two turns unless you spam agile style.

with save scumming you can get away with normal balls for the alphas you really want to use but i'd try to break the tism for other ones. I normally catch everything in regular balls as well but it's rough trying that on these alphas

Tough to say. My n=1 experience is that traveling back and forth between a zone and jubilife a lot will make new ones appear and refresh faster but I’m not sure if they’re on an internal timer or based on real world time (ex: randomly + guaranteed at every 5 minutes of playtime or randomly + guaranteed at every real world time ending in :x0). I tried to note any patterns after doing it a LOT but unsuccessful.

probably the least frustrating way is to go about other stuff until some favorable outbreak spawns and start resetting on that, if you’re lucky while doing dozens of map resets one of your faves will pop and you can switch to that one.
Targeting the spawning of a specific outbreak seems painful, based on my experience resetting the map probably hundreds of times at this point. Though I also don’t have final region unlocked which has all the mons you want I think so I don’t know how common those outbreaks are.

If you have autosave on you can literally turn off your game right now and relaunch it. You'll be at the camp you started from and all you have to do is run straight to where that Drifloon was.

I'm pretty sure Feather and Heavy ball variants follow the Pokeball, Great Ball, Ultra Ball catchrates. Only difference is Heavy Balls are designed for surprise catching so they grant an additional boost if you can pull it off while the feather ball variants just get a boost in how far you can throw it

Now we can say that most people have done more than the required tasks so it's not a firm number for everyone, but once you complete the dex I'd guess you only have to do 75-150 extra tasks to get to rank 10. so basically just max out some pages for mons you wanna shiny hunt for and maybe their evolutions and you're golden.

If you math it out, there are 224 pokemon when we exclude mythical pokemon.
To "complete" a pokemon you need to do 10 research tasks. Each research task gives out 10 points. If you do the bare minimum, you only get 100 points per pokemon.
In addition to points from tasks, you get a 100 point bonus for completing an entry.
Therefore the formula is simply, 224 * (100 + 100), which only gives 44,800. Considering that the 10th rank needs 60000 points, you're still 15200 points short.
If we include the mythical pokemon excluding shaymin and darkrai, there are 16. By getting research level 10 for them you get 3200 points.
In the end you are left with 12000 points needed. Which is the equivalent of 1200 tasks or 600 double tasks.

There are several methods
The one I use because it’s the fastest for me checks only the first 4 of an outbreak and also it results in being able to farm the same outbreak for multiple shinies
>get outbreak desired (no shortcut you have to get lucky)
>go to outbreak zone, save at camp
>check outbreak for shiny if none then:
>go back to jubilife
>if outbreak gone=reload game and go back to jubilife again from the camp
>if outbreak there=go back out the same place
>(I save here at the camp every time for superstitious reasons)
>check outbreak for shiny
>repeat until you die IRL
once you catch a shiny you can keep farming the outbreak. save your shiny, back to jubilife, back to the outbreak zone, save, then continue the cycle again as usual.

Alright, do you think you can derive enjoyment from filling up the pokedex (pic related)? While you only need to accomplish ten of those tasks, this is pretty much what you will be doing most of the game.
Personally, I believe that it is worth buying. Its quite a departure from traditional pokemon games and I enjoyed exploring the maps despite the graphics.

Do whichever suits you, but being over or under leveled for the story fights won't really make that much of a difference in the general feeling of the game. If you're gonna explore as much as you can before moving the story at least go until the point where you can ride Wyrdeer.

can you actually catch alpha's by surprise with the lead ball? when i throw food to get their back facing my way and see them eat, the the throw sign indicates that i can catch it, but as soon as i throw the ball the big red cross appears again every time.

I've used every ball except for the regular poké ball with success.
Ignore the indicator, the only time you can't catch it is if it has the red eye on the screen. Use back strikes, feed it Nanab/Hopo and Razz Berries, or give it its favorite food/cakes so you have more time to sneak up on it. Sometimes it fails, but there's a science to it.

Chaining swarms. You clear all the mons in a swarm, close the game, exit the area and come back and new spawns for the swarm appear. Unfortunately the game randomly decides sometimes to kill the chain and replace it with another mon, so if your switch is modded, backup your save every step of the chain so you can go restore it and continue.

Load into the area with the swarm you want, save, and when you reload you're already locked into that swarm. You still need to leave and come back to reset the spawns, but you can reload and try again if the game decides to change swarms.

Smoke bombs or feeding them, or both, throw berry to move them , throw smoke bomb to creep behind them while they eat berry/cake

Toss Ultra/Giga ball, hope it works, if it doesn't haul your ass out of there because as soon as they come out they argo even with the smoke cloud/grass

It's hard as shit to do for alphas that patrol wide open areas

I think outbreaks are only gated by region unlock not progression but it’s not like ive seen every single possibility pop in my map resetting adventures either so I don’t have concrete proof

I just sneak in grass or behind a rock, whatever cover is nearest. I watch the alpha's patterns for a few seconds and then start moving in. If they go left, you go left and so on. It's really easy to stay behind their line of sight if you pay close enough attention, even in an open field. The only challenge I've had in some open spaces if having to pick off a few surrounding pokemon first so you're not getting swarmed or targeted when you're trying to sneak in.

RPG player here that likes to 100% everything before getting to the ending. I'm getting RL10 on every mon available before post game including Unown and Wisps, and a bit of shiny hunting for the final team on the side. My first time in a new area I'd return to Jubilife with like 90% of that area's dex filled out.
Skipped getting Sneasler and Braviary and explored all of their respective regions just with what I had coming in for the fun of it. I almost think Braviary is too much and we'd be better without it.

I’m lucky I’m using the fast technique of only checking first 4 and on top of that the outbreak is maybe 10 seconds travel time from the camp. I map reset very fast.

Game is easy enough that you don’t need to metatag. Grass/fighting has a fair number of weaknesses but also hits a lot of things fairly hard. Triple arrow seems to have speed modifier or something since mine is able to double fairly often and it has two nice secondary effects(crit boost and def debuff) attached to it, making it worth using despite its 50 or whatever base power it is.
