I've played Pokemon since the first games came out, unlike 3/4 of the zoomers on this board. Gen 5 was a huge breath of fresh air after 3 and 4, which I also played the shit out of but were just ok. Gen 5 being the lowest selling games basically sealed the fate of this series. At least PLA is decent after having my expectations for this series reduced to zero.

I was mainly referring to things like free heals on routes and the limited team rosters of Gym Leaders and E4. Most of the exploration in B/W is optional too which doesn't bother me but others would say is the first sign of encroaching linearity.

I don't get this. It was the same plot as every other game since Gen 3 where the evil faggots try to catch the box legendary and destroy the world. Ghetsis was kind of edgy, but that's about it as far as "maturity" goes. Gens 1 and 2 had you battle the Pokemafia who stole, abused, and even killed Pokemon for the sake of money. Gen 7 gave you a canon waifu for the first time in Pokemon game afaik. What about Gen 5 makes it more mature?

People are simply ignorant if they don't see the depth of features in B2W2. You can dislike the graphics or story or whatever but the game is packed with things to do that many aren't aware of because they didn't play enough. For completionists it's a very rewarding game and debuted things thst later gens stole and rebranded (o-powers, festival plaza)

Bw was a bit on and off for me. I think some of the characters keep forcing themselves on to you too much. BW2 is better where, yeah, you get forced upon near the start and the end, the whole 3rd to 7th gym stretch you’re pretty much free to play through the game mostly unmolested

It doesn't. Trust me, I've tried to play BW and BW2 at least two or three times and it's literally impossible to get past the 5th gym. It's the sloggiest, ugliest, least soulful of all the Pokémon games IMO. They look great but gen 4 will always be my favorite style. The environments and character sprites look a little weirdly flat in gen 5 whereas they look perfectly chunky in gen 4. That said i love 5's color palette, the moving sprites, and creative locations. Damn gen 5 is amazing
