This type of immersion, related more to the world than to interaction with your team, has a lot to improve too but they dont have much previous experience to take as inspiration. Snap should be their point of refference. And there are many other important overworld points to touch: the return of seasons, time of day events and day of the week events, opening new paths, hidden grottoes, using appropiate rideable monsters for specific purposes like in Alola/Hisui, *optional* interaction of moves in the overworld like HMs/headbutt/sweet scent/etc, return of all forms of traversing from Hoenn: surfing, diving, soaring the skies, biking, as well as rock climbing, defog, waterfall, whirlpool, flash, etc. and even digging the underground. Interaction with flora not just with berries, headbutting trees and putting homey, but also maybe cutting trees or finding nests with eggs. Make secret bases return and add to them camping mechanics. A game based on exploration and unlocking new areas through finding out the appropiate types of pokémon. But not too restrictive nor mandatory to prevent the frustration of HMs in past gens. This would be super immersive but requires way more work than integrating team interactions.
