I think the biggest problem was that it came out so shortly after the originals, and the story is so thick with cut scenes and handholding that it is a chore on a second playthrough.
Honestly I don't think the QOL improvements justified a whole new game purchase. If someone asked me which version I'd recommend, I'd honestly say just get the originals. It's a more cohesive story.
If ever I do play the gen again, it is going to be a while. Fuck the cutscenes and handholding.
