If you PLA fans never liked the old formula and write off every ommission or change as good or better by default then why the fuck were you on the board prior to PLA? I don't think you like Pokemon because you don't see to want it to be Pokemon. You just want to feel like you are better than other anons for liking the latest game.

I agree that battle gimmicks were getting old. I never personally cared for them. I'm just tired of self proclaimed fans spinning it to sound like core parts of the games were nevee good and that's why them being gone is a good thing. I think things they didn't like could be adapted rather than cut entirely.

I like abilities. It doesn't bother me that they're missing from what I consider a spinoff game. If they implement abilities, or breeding, or held items in the sequel I'll be happy. If they don't, I still won't really care.

The longevity you're talking about is specific to a minority of players that doesn't include me, so I still don't care. I find nothing fun in grinding out a perfect team for comp, and I don't believe it did anything to hold 99% of Pokemon players

/vp/ spent nearly 10 something years bitching about pokemon being the same ever since the 3DS games started coming out, hell arguably even before that. After 20 years the old formula starts to get stale, especially when gamefreak goes backwards in terms of game design. PLA isn't perfect, but I'll gladly welcome something completely fresh and open ended than another game like sword and shield that just feels like a shittier version of everything that came before it. Knowing gamefreak they'll forget everything they learned from this game and gen 9 will be another hallway simulator with 20 hour cutscenes and the same old "spam A to win" battle and catching system. Except now they have a new hat!

Legends isn't perfect, and I think as it is currently it'll have a lot less staying power than what we had from around gen 3-5, but it actually attempts to match the series to the hardware it's on and do meaningful innovations to exploration and movement instead of another shitty battle gimmick that gets dropped the next gen for the exact same thing but dumber

Who ever said that? This is just a very exciting new take on the franchise. I personally hope we continue to see games done in the classic Pokémon formula but also more like PLA where they can experiment and spread their creative wings a bit. I don't think either approach should be the only type of games being made. He'll, they can even make more Let's Go games while they're at it, I just won't be buying them. Would actually be a pretty good approach, in my opinion. Have 3 main teams working on the games, a classic team, and let's go team and a legends team. More variety means there's most likely something that every fan can enjoy. It doesn't mean that every fan has to enjoy all of it.

dubs of truth, but tbf they've kinda ran outta ideas by gen 4 finished up, it was fine in gen 5 and 7 when they changed up the plotline from the usual stuff but bar fairy type nothing has mechanically changed outside of one-off gimmicks. i think you can change parts of the game without just making it another genre though, much less the genre of the week that'll be just a fad in 10 years.

Monster Hunter has been around for 18 years and is more popular now than ever. The genre is no more a fad now than turn based monster collecting RPGs were back in 2010.

Open world games have been going strong even longer than monster hunter. I brought up monster hunter because PLA is effectively a monster hunter style game. Much more so than it is an "open world" game. My point is you're too quick to call all these things "fads" as if Pokemon itself wasn't a fad genre when it started. Both Open World games and Monster Hunter style games are no more "fads" now than turn based RPGs like Pokemon were in the 1990s.

I don't think I've ever captured as many Pokemon as in PLA the past few days throughout nearly two decades of playing the games. Why would I sit through a bunch of text boxes to capture some uninspired ugly piece of shit that has become the norm for designs after gen 4? Meanwhile in PLA the sneak mechanics are actually fun so it doesn't matter that what I'm catching is some creatively bankrupt design, although because of the dex, there aren't as many of them.

I really would have been okay with the series staying the way it was if it got the same level of care and length of dev time as Dragon Quest but since they're clearly incapable of allowing the mech machine to close it's spinchter long enough to allow that, it's definitely best for everyone if we just axe it all and start a new gameplay formula.
