I have no idea why these sold so well. they're not even bad games in my opinion, I just don't understand it. you could say it's because the switch sold so well but the ds sold a trillion units, nearly everybody who was a kid in the ds era had a gen 4 game at least

Playing through Sword for the first time. There are so many things in this game that make me ask "why?" while I play. There is also a lot of potential here. Even with the dexcut and keeping the graphics as they are. There are some good improvements but some very odd design choices. Screwing around in the Wild Area and the DLC areas is a lot more fun than the base game. It blows my mind that this feels like the least "Pokemon" game. Like they tack on the basics so it's recognizable.

Literally any game could have sold as much as SwSh did. It was the pure novelty factor of it being the first "mainline console" Pokemon game. It also benefitted from the console+handheld line being consolidated into a single device. In fact, it ONLY selling 6-7 million more than XY/SM did is kind of pathetic when you think about it.

Look at Animal Crossing or Mario Kart sales if you really want to be impressed.

Cope. Nintendo consoles have shaky install base but Handhelds have always had great install base and everyone that wanted a Pokemon game has always been able to acquire them. It had nothign to do with being a console game, everything to do with the fact that the brand was simply revitalized by Pokemon Go (Sun Moon was too late to capitalize on it properly)
