Furthermore, the existences of alternate evolutions for Galarian Meowth, Galarian Yamask, and Hisuian Sneasel are proof that Game Freak is at least interested in the concept of regionals getting unique evolutions separate from the standard’s. You also have regionals that are pretty much alternate evolutions anyway for certain lines.

You also have the pun with its Japanese name with guma meaning either raccoon or badger, with the Galarian line representing the latter.
The regional form makes sense in that aspect, as Obstagoon is clearly a badger.
The “Hoennian” Linoone, and I use Hoennian loosely since this form appears in other regions as well, is a raccoon. If it gets an evolution at some point, it will be a raccoon and separate from Obstagoon as a concept.
