It's funny how bait and shill threads never have relevant images as the OP. Route trainers are important because they often tell you something useful about the game or show you pokemon you haven't seen yet. Sure a lot of them feel like fluff, but they serve a purpose.

Providing hints and tips to players isn't handholding. Would you know to jump off the roof in cinnabar's mansion if there weren't an npc to tell you you can? Would anyone know where Feebas or Chimecho are? You fail to separate forced tutorials from good game design

there's an NPC at the bogs that tells you about a pokemon with a weird colour during an outbreak and there's an entire quest to introduce shinies
