Their games have been behind the graphic standards of the time on every platform. They have always lacked basics QoL features that are standard at the time. Their programming prowess and presentation similarly far behind their contemporaries.
You will find this on any platform except ARGUABLY the GB classic where everything looks like trash. Gen 2 looks worse than Links Awakening DX. Gen 3 looks like a literal chinese bootleg RPG game, but to name a few specifics, Minish Cap and the Mario and Luigi games look better. TONS of RPGs shit on gen 4 and 5 on the DS. And the 3D era games speak for themselves.
The literal only thing that's changed is the minimum technical demand to produce an acceptable video game has only gone up each gen. And Gamefreaks ability to match that bare minimum has faltered
