No, the only reason why they changed the designs back in the Yellow and GS sprites and later in the FRLG official art we use to this day is to be consistent with their anime portrayal given it's the main advertising point for the games and merch when arguably it should've been the other way around, otherwise going by that "theory" Charmander's spike being present in every bit of official media in Gen 1 but the anime is just some crazy Mandela effect.
