It probably doesn’t warn you about shinies since it doesn’t warn about alphas but haven’t tested shiny release

Are shinies more common in PLA? I've gotten two so far just running around gathering mats and I'm not all that far into the game yet.

Pretty much, yeah. I’m playing through the game and exploring a bit and have found three shiny Geodude, and one Petilil, Roselia, Carnivine and Parasect. Wonder if I’ll fill a team of offcolored Grass types or shiny pebbles first.

I ended up getting the female alpha but too much of a dumbshit to get the screenshot off my switch. Cute nature too, suits the Espeon I'm gonna evolve it into.
I got about 25 male alphas, 12 shiny eevees, and 3 full odds shinies on the trip to the mass outbreak, 2 snorunts and a swinub.

Yeah they generally seem to spawn around those numbers. I might just be imagining this but it feels like the numbers that spawn decrease the more i chain a specific outbreak

I started hunting a handful of Eevee from an outbreak but I stopped because I started getting more Bidoof. I think it's a better idea to get Eevee's research to Perfect first if I want to get that many.

Even if a shiny shows up in an outbreak you can just keep chaining it for more shinies. It's not all that hard to do, just time consuming

Nah cause it rerolls the out breaks in all the different areas. If you do get stuck with an outbreak of Pokémon you don’t want and warping isn’t getting rid of it just go and catch or defeat the Pokémon. Stick with it, you’ll get it.

For some reason when you get a Rotom outbreak if you join and leave the map at Summit Camp while travelling between the map and the village the outbreak will break after 4 tries. If you use 1 of the other 2 camps in Cornet Highlands it will continue on indefinitely like every other outbreak. The outbreak is right next Summit camp, maybe it is too close and leaving from that camp counts as clearing the spawns from the outbreak.

How many times has this happened for you to assure it always happens after 4? Because any outbreak chain can be broken at random times, regardless of what camp you enter from, so you just had bad luck unless you can repeat this multiple times.

I've had it happened twice. After it happened the first time, I made a backup save the next time I got a rotom outbreak. It had the same behavior as the first time when using summit camp.

Whats the issue? Abandon the battle and go after them indivuially, if you fall just start from your save again as long as you don't leave that map those pokemon will respawn for you to catch now fuck off already! I spent 12 hours looking for Eevee in his swarm, even with 10 research filled none of those little foxes shined for me!

I've beaten the game and done the plates quests and the only shiny I found was a gligar in an outbreak. Hopefully more start showing up as I work to complete the dex.
Can someone explain the current shiny hunting method, I see people talking about outbreak chaining and I'm not sure what that is

Just got a Hisuian Sneasel today from an outbreak, mainly due to me wanting to see how the outbreak method works. Helps that it has a pretty good shiny as well.

No, what happens is that if you dont leave and save each time you are using the same seed in each reset so you are getting the same mons each time, if there was no shiny the first time then there will never be useless you leave and save each time.

she was the fourth shiny eevee that i had seen in my game, so probably under like 6 or 7 hours of hunting up until that point. got lucky and found multiple eevee outbreaks within a short timespan so that helped, too.

There’s 2 methods
4 check method will give you maximum output but you only check the first 4 spawns
12 check method you can still get more than one shiny but it depends on where each shiny spawns in the outbreak

Yeah I'm a bit confused by this bit of info.

I've done this method several times successfully, but on one hunt for Yanma, I had caught one of the shinies that spawned. I continued afterwards, because I wanted a larger one.

It DID work, however eventually the outbreak despawned. Text appeared stating something along the lines of "the outbreak seems to have disappeared" (different from the usual "outbreak is done yadda yadda" text) when arriving at the Yanma spot.

Is there any info on this?

It's because you fucked up by waiting until the spawn pool for the yanma depleted. Only 12 pokemon will spawn. If you save after killing/catching 11 of them, then only 1 will spawn every time. Basically, you fucked up.

Yeah it will reduce the outbreak by one spawn every time you catch one. So only catching from the initial 4 until it completely depletes will get you the most shinies from one outbreak if that’s the goal.

Apparently, going for a shiny alpha with no fixed spawn with only dex level 10 and an outbreak gives you 1 in 15,000ish odds. Getting the shiny charm and a perfect dex entry would raise it to 1 in 13,000ish odds.

Ok, I was a brainlet. I lost a shiny ralts due to an outbreak disappearing after saving and reloading while in the middle of an outbreak. After a bit of testing, the outbreak will only disappear if you save and reload after going less than 4 spawns.

Thought it'd be harder, but after a little less than two hours of grinding I found this shiny alpha rotom. Funny thing is that I ended up ignoring two regular shinies while resetting this outbreak and I don't even have the shiny charm. Absolutely insane.
Gonna try doing the same for a Gligar and Budew next, then the rest of my team if I don't get burnt out.

Do Cherrim actually fall from trees? I have a Cherubi outbreak so have plenty of them after evolving but never seen one in the wild in 30 hours. Haven't seen it's sun form either.

Just spontaneously hunted this golden pupper.
I wanted to do shiny hunting only after I'm done with the main quest. Especially after I got burned in the first few hours by the map Alpha Tangrowth being a random shiny and uncatchable.
But Growlithe/Arcanine are my favorites so I couldn't help it when the outbreak popped up.

It's a Rock/Ice type based off of a phenomenon literally called "Rock Glaciers", which relatively flat landmasses comprised of a layer of interspersed ice caked over amassed rock or vise versa.
Also it has mandibles now for some reason

I'm shiny hunting unown in PLA. Even though my luck has been great outside of this in PLA hunting unowns has gone nowhere for 3 days. But it's still better than shiny hunting unown in any other game LMAO and it's causing me to end up with more money and grit than I know what to do with(I don't need all the item slots that badly). So it's nice that it's actually a self sufficient hunt.

You can get an eevee outbreak in the first zone and last zone, but it would have to randomly spawn. I don't think there is a way to make sure a specific outbreak spawns.

Not him, but I just go to see the first 4 that spawn, then head back to camp, save, village, back to outbreak and repeat.
Then reset if the outbreak disappears. That way I'm not depleting the outbreak and saving the maximum amount of Pokemon behind those initial 4 if I want to hunt again.

On average, how long does it take you guys to get shinies from using the 4 spawn method for outbreaks? I'm still debating whether it is more or less efficient than just catching/defeating the whole swarm and then resetting.

Thats a big one for me, the first shiny I ever saw aipom in Silver, but I had no idea what shines were so just knocked it out.

It varies, for me >>49556999 it’s usually taken around an hour, give or take. Some have taken me minutes and some a little over an hour but I don’t think that’s terribly long for a shiny you’re exactly looking for. The possible longest aspect of the outbreak method is actually rerolling for an outbreak that you’d specifically want imo, the actual hunt is pretty fast.

I shouldn’t also mention that catching them instead of checking the first 4 could be quite cumbersome, some mons could run away instantly if you get spotted/fail to catch and some instantly get angry if they spot you, which is why I like using the check 4 method since I can basically skip most of that.

When there’s an outbreak you want to hunt on the map
>travel to the map
>save

>load into game in the camp
>teleport to jubilife
>if outbreak hasn’t broken, tp back to the camp
>SAVE every time at this step at the camp
>check outbreak the same way
>close game if no shiny etc etc repeat
if outbreak disappears or changes close the game and reload, sometimes can happen back to back just reopen the game until the outbreak is normal. Saving at the camp every time is crucial. You can catch multiple shinies from the same outbreak if you want by continuing the process just save after the shiny capture.

If you don’t restart and just tp back to town at that point you’ll be reducing the spawn count of your outbreak

Nah, the outwardly hostile ones are easy because you can gather them all and 1v4 the whole group, the skittish ones are even easier because you can just stand in middle and watch them despawn on their own, alternatively you can just crouch in grass and catch anything that moves

The ones like machop or rotom that are passive are annoying because catching or fighting even one sends the entire outbreak hostile even if you're in hiding, but they don't automatically gang up on you in battles either unless you piss them off individually by throwing shit at them first

It does take time. But when people say it's "easy" they mean relative to past mainline game. But there's a lot of reasons for that.

You save so much time in a variety of ways. Level 10 dex makes it easier. Mass outbreaks make it waaaaaaaay fucking easier(and if you're struggling to find any I'd honestly start with these) . This is the first time that the shiny charm has basically made a negligible difference and is only for masochists . Oh and the most important difference: you aren't wasting time entering and exiting individual encounters over and you can literally fly around the map for shinies then go reset it if you don't find one.

Complain to us when you've spent literal months soft resetting for a static shiny in gen 2.

I have question that's probably been answered a bunch of times already. I had a Luxio outbreak and after a few resets got my shiny, it was the 8th Luxio to spawn in the outbreak and the remaining four were not shiny. I saved after catching my shiny went back to camp and went back to the village. Went to the map and the Luxio outbreak was still ongoing, but now it only spawns 4 Luxio before ending. I've already confirmed that if I reset, leave and come back they're different Luxio (I caught the for before a reset and the next time I caught them again and they were different levels) so this should mean there's a chance for another shiny right? Or as the last four were already determined before 8 left and came back are they locked out of being shiny?
Additionally a reset or two after my shiny Luxio I encountered a shiny Starly on my way back to the outbreak so I'm feeling extra lucky.

Actually, probably should've included natures. Even if mints exist I'd prefer to stick with evolutions that at least somewhat match the natures.

The Alpha ended up with Naughty, the others are Careful, Gentle, Lax, Quirky, Bold, Adamant, and (thank god) Timid.

Mostly not great, but fine for the most part.

I read somewhere that each time you reset the initial 4, the "backup" 4 that would have spawned after you captured/fainted the initial are the next spawns which is why I ask

You don't have to fuck around with catching or fighting, can just check, back to town, and then out again. Quick, simple, effective. You also save the remaining 11ish for further hunts if you wish.

Then you'd cycle through the twelve, reset, and go back to jubilife from your previous save. You'd still need to deal with the "backup" 8 from the next two saves you do that you would have seen from doing the 12 initially

from trying out check 4 today, it seems like the better strat compared to check all. way less involved and shockingly fast since you don't have to spend time forcing respawns or waiting for the game to relaunch. might time my runs tomorrow to see if it's worth the convenience.
