There’s no subversity in Cynthia. She’s interested, but not excited about any of it. Volo seems genuinely excited to learn more about legendaries. Are Volo and Cogita related? Their designs and both having "the ancient blood of Hisui" makes me think they are but the way they talk to each other suggests otherwise. Maybe Volo is Cogita's grandson that she doesn't like very much but it wouldn't explain why she knows so much more than him.

This is why not making a real remake for dppt was a mistake. If GF was more interested on doing this, they could have just focused all their efforts here and have ILCA as extra manpower, then after making legends, now that they have the region made, so just add the towns and gyms from gen 4, and voila, there's a more interesting remake made. You could have even marketed them as versions, making legends the dialga version and the hypothetical dppt with legends as the base the palkia version.

you could count the amount of genuinely interesting Pokemon characters on two hands, they're usually villains or rivals. cynthia isn't a remotely interesting character and it's pretty puzzling why people even like her. it's more about her distinct design and the novelty of her being the first female champion than anything else. her interactions with the player are nothing special, much closer to steven than something like lance teaming up with the player in gen2. her popularity is extremely unjustified.
