Also I assume the Mew you find on Faraway Island in the Emerald event is the very same same Mew that Mewtwo was born from, since there's a sign on the island strongly implied to be written by Fuji.

From a design stand point X looks like an extension of what Mewtwo already is, a Pokemon made for combat, and in turn could easily pass off as its evolution

Y mean whiles looks like Mewtwo is slowly regressing back into a Mew, its cute, but not what I'd expect from Mewtwo

Its surprising the series promotes Mewtwo Y over X, but I assume its only due to the fact they promote Charizard X over Y

I think X evolutions create new power for a Pokemon and Y evolutions enhance the powers Pokemon already have. Sure, there's only been two separate X/Y evolutions (Mewtwo and Charizard) but even with that little info, it's safe to assume things like that, I'd say.
For example, if Ampharos got an extra Mega Evolution, I'd consider the Mega Ampharos we know to be Mega Ampharos X, while Ampharos Y would probably still retain its mono-Electric type.

Thankfully as a Metal Gear fan, the concept of making a clone that needs to be born from someone isn't new to me

...Also makes me sad Mewtwo wasn't around when Snake had codecs on fighters in Smash Bros, since I feel like they could have had him feel some companionship towards Mewtwo since they are both clones

If you ask me, it probably would've been similar to the things he had to say about Lucas.
I do feel like Pit's remarks on it were well done, and hey, Palutena even recognized it as part of the Pokedex. Could've just been her flexing her knowledge but she at least recognizes it as a true Pokemon.
