Dexit isn't the only problem, though justifying Dexit with the excuse of "improved animations" did leave a sour taste in peoples' mouth. The other problem is that the region itself is tiny and has very few routes and the Charizard and general Kanto pandering is somehow even worse than in Kalos. The QoL features are great, but it's as if the game was first and foremost meant as a breeding simulator for competitive players and the game itself was an afterthought. Then they released a $30 DLC to make the game complete but given how short the base game of SwSh was, it felt like those DLCs should've been part of the base game itself. They were not only locking Pokemon behind a paywall (Home) but locking almost half the game behind a paywall (DLC) too.

It's not the worst game ever made or anything like /vp/ says, they just failed to address a lot of the problems it's predecessors had, notably the linearity and pacing. In fact I think it doubled down on those problems. Super bland coming off of Gen 7 which at least tried to be a little different. Also it's odd that THIS was the main game that started the dexcut, I get they had to redo textures but there was nothing really substantial added in this entry to seem to warrant it. Dynamax I guess? At least the wild area is fun but I just can't sit through the main game to experience more of it, sadly. I can't tell if I enjoyed this more than SM or not. Glad PLA went in the extreme opposite but I'm 100% guaranteed Gen 9 will be structured more like SwSh.

I borrowed Sword, and I could barely finish it. The Wild Area was okay, but sucking off Leon/Charizard got really boring really fast and every time the game made me fight Hop AGAIN I had to force myself to go through it. No victory road or equivalent felt like a punch in the gut more than the battle frontier ever did, and the legendaries turning in the post game cutscenes... everything in it just screams a lack of effort from GF, and shows that they don't need to for people to buy their games as long as they have the Pokemon name on them. I'm glad they weren't as lazy on PLA but ill be as cautious with gen 9 as I was with gen 8.

They could easily make it so that mon won’t listen to you until you progress with your badges.
And know what? They did exactly that in PLA and it is miles better than SwShit.
Boss mons are also drops rare loot and resources in PLA so there is actually reasons to encounter them in PLA.

I unironically defended Galar as fun for a long time and actually had a lot of fun with the DLC. Mustard is based and Calyrex and his horse are new favorites for me.
But here’s the thing: this should have been the whole game from the start. Off the bat, SwSh is pretty similar to Gen VI in that it’s very barebones. A complete Pokémon game shouldn’t cost $90 (and no, autistic eugenics and biking simulators don’t count as content, shut the fuck up).
After playing PLA however, I can’t really go back. The only complaints I really have about that game are the lack of PvP (even casual, offline battles would be nice) and that the battle system and turn order shit is kind of unintuitive at the beginning. It’s such a night and day difference that it made me dislike SwSh and somewhat tainted my memory of it. It’s kind of like thinking your dad was your hero growing up only to find out as an adult that he was cheating on your mother at gay bathhouses.

That's why I haven't made it past Eterna City in that game for almost 15 years. I hate using the handful of mons available at the start (you know - Staraptor, Luxray, Roserade...) and the other options are garbage.
