Unless you mean to imply there's a deeper meta narrative that tells us the games are LITERALLY ONLY games rather than abstraction of living, breathing fantasy worlds, and the true story is about how these game worlds have preordained that select individuals are to be, from the start of their save file-bound existence, worn down and broken into nothing more than silent, obedient vessels for beings beyond the game, so that they can fulfill the Chosen One mantle not on their own merits, but rather, the entertainment-based whims of those beings.
And that once the being no longer cares to control their vessel, if Red's any evidence, they're so fucking traumatized from the experience that the only thing they know to do is escape into the most obscure place possible in hopes their controller can't find them again and latch onto the one thing that gave them comfort during their time existing solely as a puppet (Red's obsession with battling, Hilbert/Hilda's obsession with N, etc.) to avoid going completely insane or outright offing themselves, and in Red's case, it literally took him until adulthood to finally get over it and realize his controller wasn't coming back (presumably seeing he was already replaced by the Johto protagonist is what incited this), but the mental scars are still present and won't ever go away which is why he still acts like a Silent Protagonist.
