Compare to Steven who we actually gradually discover shit about, starting from the letter we deliver him from his father (probably saying 'team magma/aqua is doing shit against Devon, please son, stop getting lost in caves and come the fuck here'), to the 'would you go monotype or balanced' question that finds an explaination in his team only being half monotype but 100% 'himself' (the other three non-steel pokemon are fossils and... An archeology related mon, with the whole team having a 'land/earth theme'), he follows our growth and immediately understands we are talented because he's the champion, it makes sense that he showers us with gifts because he's filthy rich, asks for our help because "no one can do things alone", has huge flaws (his father says he's impatient, is fully autistic about his passion for geology to a comedic level), has a breakdown at the end of the story where he understands he has to start from square one because we're just that better than him and he must 'go on a soul searching journey'. If we consider delta episode too, we see him lose control and make mistakes, be biased and fucking up. What does Cynthia have as flaws? "Oh my god I'm so untidy my house is a mess I gotta go crash at Caitlin's again"? Come on.
