How is it that none of Ash's pokemon are extremely resentful for Ash and Pikachu for his extremely un-subtle favoritism?

Because it is a children's show and you are supposed to suspend disbelief. But yeah, it is hypocritical. They stress the importance of friendship, but the MC only cares about his rat while ditching everyone else once they have outlived their usefulness.

Another reason why never changing protagonist is stupid.
