Lance was based for using dragon-adjacent Pokemon in a game where there was only 3 dragon type Pokemon to begin with.
>Gyarados: Eastern dragon
>Charizard: Western bipedal dragon
>Aerodactyl: Wyvern
Of course Gen 3 added a ton of new legit dragons (Salamence and Flygon lines, Altaria, Kingdra) but there was something cool about having a dragon tamer who doesnt always use “dragons” in the traditional sense.
