Hop is one of the best expressions of that arc because you can see how desperately try hard he becomes by the fact that he ditches his partner Pokémon and just starts trying completely new teams every time

All those Pokemon are catchable in Alola you dumbass. Why would a character in-universe magically avoid specific Pokemon because out of universe they're not flavor of the month?
