if I die to a boss battle vs big yellow glowing pokemon it asks me if I want to restart the fight resetting the gauge, or continue from the last gauge "checkpoint".
Why would I ever restart? Is there an achievement or a special reward for beating a bossfight without dying?

Also can you change natures in this game? If I find a shiny alpha and its nature is shit my autism gets sad, even though I never played competitive.

the biggest reason to not evolve pokemon is research, but yes they will learn moves sooner than their evolved counterparts.
You can change natures with mints after you expand the farm enough.

Completing research tasks for a level 10 page. You will really, REALLY want to do this with baby mons, the starters, and the fossils in particular, because they're going to be a pain in the ass to find again just short of a swarm (which can't even happen for the latter 2 examples).

Right now what I have is
Red type: Scizor
Blue type: Toxicroak
Purple? type: Drapion
Yellow? type: Decidueye

was thinking about swapping Toxicroak out for a different blue type but I'm not sure what. Also Decidueye because most green types are grass. also considering going for more of a rainbow look with my trainer wearing the 7th color. any suggestions welcome, this'll take me too long to figure out on my own.

There can only be one alpha active at a time so if you don’t make him fuck off the shiny that spawns after him and is “meant to be” alpha won’t be alpha if the alpha is still there
Also if an alpha is spawning every single time you’re resetting wrong

The game generates the spawns specifically when you leave Jubilife. If there is an outbreak it will make new spawns every time the area loads until you actually look at them. Resetting to before you entered the area allows your to check without the game knowing.

Eh, just tried doing a Teddiursa outbreak, and while catching the first one MIGHT help, doing subsequent reloads didn't produce anything, although I do have auto-save setup so I might turn that off during the next test.

I just tried with a Teddiursa, and an Ursaring just now.

With the Teddiursa, I chalked it up to the 'first' one just happening to run away without me noticing. However, with the Ursaring, those fuckers don't run away, and despite effectively catching or downing all of them, I still never got a shiny to pop after three separate re-loads, so I think it just happened to be a fluke with the streamer/youtuber.

I mean, he's not wrong--I had an Gorwlithe and Rappidash spawn using the same method, but the Ursa evolution line was a no-go.

...And just tried again--catching one and killing the rest. Looks like some outbreaks just don't have shinies. Too lazy to check if he mentions it in the video.

Let's say there's a Snorunt outbreak and I want a Froslass, and turns out there actually is a shiny, but it's male

There's no set "this outbreak has a shiny". It's determined once you load the map. Nature, gender, level, everything.

You can however spawn up to 12 shinies from an outbreak by just checking the first four. Catch the shiny, save at camp, and reload until you get the female you want.

Yes you can keep farming the same outbreak however only the remaining amount of spawns will spawn
So if you caught 4 to get the first shiny, 8 will spawn from then on. If you caught 1 cus the shiny was in the first 4 then 11 will spawn from then on.

PLA like a lot of games keeps 2 files for saves, that when you save it overwrites the oldest one. Sounds like your newest save file might have been corrupted somehow so it defaulted back to the other older save.

No, first if you catch them while being undetected it counts for both. Same goes for every other pokemon with that requirement

And for research level, you just have to complete 10 tasks on an individual pokemon's chart (it's shared between every pokemon of the same species) and anything with the two arrows counts for double. So catching 25 starly would get you to 10 and fill the requirement, but you could catch 3, faint 4, evolve 1 would be perfectly fine.

Finished the story. Decided I'll catch everything but not worry about unown, quests, max research, et cetera. Just catch everything and get the extra ending. My thought process was that I'd just go through each map in order and catch everything in it. I spent two hours looking for Munchlax and Cherubi in the Obsidian Fieldlands, returning to town after each pass over the areas they spawn in. Nothing. Is this supposed to make me want to die?

I dunno about 6, but I beat both of Benis and Kamados 4 pokemon teams before you fight dialga/palkia, just using the level 85 alpha garchomp without any grit or heals. Absolutely didnt attack first every time, but one pokemon sweeps still seem possible

Save it for post since you won’t be able to finish the dex until then anyway. Don’t forget to talk to Laventon in the HQ for the other two starters. Oh, and just to keep it simple just go down the dex in numerical order. There are magikarp in the river northwest from the fieldlands camp that make “use x move” and stuff like that much easier, there’s also an alpha spawn downriver. For stuff like roost and recover just engage two or more mons at once and you can just loop it. Mimic resets on swap so you can just mimic swap out swap in and mimic again.

You can finish the majority of the dex with Sneasler, it's what I did and felt great, usually you get a lot of space-time distortions as you go in an area for longer which helps too.
Handing in a fat research and caught Pokémon bounty feels v good.

I believe the % depends on the location where you're digging too, I haven't evolved scyther or ursaring yet and I feel like the % is higher than 0.01 for those two

You have to unironically get gud.

The best tactic is to only have the feather balls/catching balls in your inventory. Basically sit and chuck balls at them from afar and then throw out your pokemon as soon as you can.

If you come across a full odds shiny you already have/don't care about, save and walk away someplace else then come back at different times of the day or weather and sometimes it will become a different shiny
it's most reliable on the day/night swaps like Dustox and Beautifly since they literally just swap out the pokemon but keep the ID
there's a chance it doesn't work though which is why you save

Definitely the 2nd one. I've been playing Gen1-5 + 7 and my teams have been mono-normal, replacing my starter with the regional rodent. Crystal and Platinum are the best versions for it in their respective gens, because of early Teddiursa and not having the cross gen evos gated to postgame.
The only games you can't use 6 normal types that came out that generation is XY and SwSh

You can lower them but the base rates are the same. The nature of the game itself makes them more common since the game spawns more Pokemon at a time. More Pokemon = more dice rolls = higher odds.

Catch every Pokémon.
Completing the Pokédex (Level 10 in every entry) will get you the Shiny Charm.
Perfecting the Pokédex will get you absolutely nothing.

There is no reward specifically for getting all Perfect entries.
When you Perfect a Pokémon's entry you get two extra Shiny rolls for that species, which stacks with the one extra you get for getting it to Level 10, bringing the odds from 1/4096 to 1/1024
Mass Outbreaks add 25 extra shiny rolls (~1/150 odds) to the Pokémon that spawn during them and almost every Pokémon in the game can appear in an outbreak, so it seems pretty worthless, although all bonuses stack plus the Shiny Charm for ultimate minimum odds of ~1/110

Yes, on an island you can't reach without Basculegion
Turtwig and Torterra are across a river in the second area
Piplup and Empleon are on a beach in the third area which is technically connected to the mainland but you'd need Sneasler to hike to it

You can get Turtwig without crossing the river. You can just go around Lake Valor
And Ramanas island isn't the only place where Chimchar and Monferno spawn
And I guess you could drop down to the water to get Piplup with a smart jump, but at that point you might as well just get Basculegion since you're already there

I caught 70 once before one spawned but then I got one within 5 minutes of entering a zone and catching nothing 4 times in a row. I've seen other people comment similar experiences. It likely has to do with the total amount of pokemon you are catching.
Or its fuckin' random, who knows?

After watching the video, I don't think he was saying that the method of catch 1, battle 3 is THE strategy, he was just trying to show that you can manipulate what pokemon spawn based on which ones you despawn because the game apparently uses rows for outbreaks. If you watch to the end you'll maybe understand what he's getting at.
He isn't saying every outbreak CAN be manipulated for a shiny, but that if you despawn everything that is currently present (the first four), then you get four new ones from their four rows. If you are catching one, then allowing more to spawn before you catch the next quick enough, or some run away, then you're pulling spawns from a single row.
Now that row may have like 8 shinies lined up, but we have no way to know that. Every single spawn has the same chance to be shiny, but if you just pull from the same row you aren't seeing every pokemon available in the outbreak.
It may be worth saving at camp and reattempting outbreaks in different ways (catch 1 kill 3, kill 4, kill 1, etc) just to see what is really there.

Finally finished the game today (not dex completed, just catching Arceus) and overall I came away with a much more positive opinion than the past mainline Pokémon games.
The problem is that I did burn out pretty hard towards the end. I didn't save the whole grind for the end of the game, I had 210 mons or so caught by the time I confronted palkia/dialga.
This makes me wonder how repeatable this game format really is. They definitely can't make every entry about filling up the Pokédex, but on the other hand everything in the gameplay is tailored toward that goal.
On the other hand I'm not sure I want to go back to the traditional 8 badges elite 4 shit either.
