Still legit curious if Ash loses to Marnie. While the next ep isn't an indication, Ash losing to her now could give us a 3 on 3 for a rematch. I feel the hype of Piers and Marnie in the magazines and their VA interviews makes it obvious we'll see them more than once either way.

Mayuki Makiguchi is already inactive as a VA since 2018 which her last one was a non Pokémon role. She had pretty much left TPC after 2016.

Does she do any modeling? I know she isn't a singer, but it's weird if she left the entertainment industry altogether. Usually anime voice actress have a singing or modeling career on the side, it's what Misty's Japanese VA does.

With only a handful of exceptions (notably Team Rocket), Masters and the anime never share VAs. It would be cool though if they did get Serena's Masters VA in case Makiguchi's unavailable. Serena's Masters VA is huge after all.

I figure the other reason we might be seeing the SM characters a lot (assuming the others get solo eps like Sophocles did), is their VA's were just on the show in the last 2 years and still active in the industry, so they're easy to bring back.

Serena's VA left the industry, and some others like Iris and Cilan's are very expensive now.

What I like about Sophocles inclusion is that it didn't feel like a big deal. If you didn't know any better, you'd think he was a series regular and we were just getting an episode that happened to be about his main interest. That's the casual capacity that I like old characters returning in, like Chuck and Drake. The episodes that try to deliver the 'hype' seem to be episodes where a lot of stuff happens, but the main returning character doesn't get a big chance to shine, at least not through their personality. In the Arceus special, Dawn and Brock did a bunch of 'stuff', but they didn't have enough time to relax and play roles as individuals. I'd like every single old companion to get an episode as good as the Sophocles one.

My only belief Dawn might appear once more is this merch with Buneary and Pachirisu on it. Remember those two pokemon didn't appear at all in the Arceus special, and only for less than 30 seconds in the first part of the winter special. It's not really why they would promote them as toys with so little focus.

Literally all these pokemon get decent sized roles in episodes, we're still waiting on the other Regi forms, Shaymin and Giratina too...but who knows they may all be part of the same arc.

Weavile is also owned by the Project Mew guy, and a Shinx could randomly be in an ep soon. I remember everyone was speculating why a random Ampharmos was on merch before we knew Sophocles was getting an episode, so it's pretty dead on.

I'm not even a Serena fan at all, I don't like her concept, personality, or goal. I think showcases were a boring addition to a series that long should have shed the need to include a 'designated girly segment'.
That being said, like any other companion, I want her to return and get a positive episode for her fans and for me. Journeys has mostly done justice to returning characters, sans Dawn. Alola gang, Iris, Volkner, Drake, Brock, and especially Gary have all gotten great returns that highlighted their characters and gave them something to do in relation to the main characters.
I think not wanting another character to return just to spite their fans is weak shit. I'm a pretty active Serena disliker but they could surprise me. If she returns and is generally boring like I remember her being, it's only one episode and at least I like Ash & Go who are always present. I'm rooting for her and everyone else's MULTIPLE returns.

Even though I'm not a Serenafag, I do want her to return and think that hoping for her never to return is bad. It would be nice to see everyone else come back and a Serena return could also give justice to her character given that she remains, to this day, the only traveling companion never to have met any of Ash's past or future traveling companions.

Even if Serena does return, it will most probably be a non-speaking cameo (if Mayuki Makiguchi doesn't return to TPC) or she returns in a toned down approach to make sure the target audience such as kids don't get turned off on romance (if Mayuki Makiguchi returns to TPC "briefly" as an ad-hoc job)

What the fuck does TPC even have to do with anything? Voice actors don't "join" or "leave" them. I mean, for example, Iris and Korrina's VAs hadn't appeared in the anime for ages before their return, so I don't think TPC had anything to do with their comebacks.

Turboautists like yourself have a very hard time reading Goh. Anytime you see him have a normal interaction, you point at the screen and cry INCONSISTENCY when Goh's never been incapable of interacting with new people. He introduced himself to Ash, Delia, and many other characters just fine from day one.

Goh has defensive, guarded interactions when he feels as though someone is being disagreeable, making fun of him, or pigeonholing him into a role he doesn't agree with. Years of being a loner, and probably being somewhat bullied for his Pokemon obsession have led to this. His miscommunication with Tokio also led to a fear of being abandoned or disregarded.

If he isn't being bombarded with comparisons to Ash or being mocked, he functions fine and is often happy to meet new people, especially when its a means to learning more about Pokemon. As of meeting Gary, Goh is taking a proactive approach to his insecurities by trying to prove himself in Project Mew. His character progression might be hard to follow for you because they aren't pointing it out and verbally explaining everything.

1. Kleavor : Need to find a Black Augurite that survive modern time.
2. Wyrdeer : Need somebody who knows Psyshield Bash from their ancestor

If Goh's didn't evolve his Scyther already than it could have been a Kleavor which fits him more since its a rare lost evolution of Scyther for him to observe, study and add to his Pokedex. Off course it makes a perfect opportunity for Ash & Goh to trade if Ash catches Kleavor. So far Dawn is the only character who trade pokemon with Ash.

I really think Ash might lose:

- Marnie and Piers seem way too hyped up for just a single episode. Their VA's got interviews and huge magazine scans. Granted I know they could just randomly appear again outside of a battle episode, but it doesn't seem as interesting.

- Marnie has the Pika-clone, Ash will never battle it unless they get a rematch of 2 on 2 or 3 on 3. They could have not had her anime incarnation have it because James does.

- Marnie could be treated like the next Bea, the next female character Ash loses to then has to beat.

The fact that they are already getting this hype up means Ash probably going to win .Furthermore Hyper Class Battle is not gym battle that Ash can challenge over & over again, how you still don't get that?

Also Marnie doesn't need to defeat Ash to reappear again. She can reappear same way Sawyer, Stephen, Korrina and Ursula did.

If Marnie never reappear again then it would be because of James's worthless Morpeko.

The difference is other series had the league for Ash to battle rivals again. This series doesn't have a traditional league so unless these characters somehow break into the Masters 8, there's no way for Ash to battle them again when he gets too high up the ranks.

I mean they can do a random ep for Marnie and Piers to appear in otherwise just for a filler, but then a lot of the hype for them to appear again or to see a Ash vs. Marnie rematch won't be there.

There is no guarantee that Ash will ever get a rematch with Marnie if he loses since Hyper Class Battle is not a gym battle. It had to be even poor writing if Ash get match up to fight Marnie twice.

Nobody even asked Marnie to be a wall for Ash. Most people want her to be a shipping bait for Ash, not a main rival.

NTA but I'm fine with them introducing a 'strongest' character, I just hate Leon's design, personality, team, backstory, I hate his aesthetic, I hate his quirky 'flaw' of getting lost often, a flaw we hear about 100 times more than actually seeing it, and I do take umbrage at a 'strongest' character boasting about an undefeated record.

The concept of this show and the lesson it continued to teach through Ash was that losses and struggles are what make us stronger and help us grow. Winning isn't as incredible as the will to keep trying even after losing. Leon is just a glitzy super-winner who doesn't have much else going on. I don't really have any characters that I 'want' to be the strongest, but I sure wouldn't pick Leon. Preferably, it should be an antagonist that's the strongest.

Scorbunny and Sobble were perfect shoulder buddies for Goh, their colors complimented his monochromatic palette and popped when they stood on or next to him. Grookey just kind of clashes. I don't mind him being mischievous if it's funny, but more often than not it just results in unnecessary and unentertaining problems for Goh, like getting booted out of the baking competition.

Anyone who ever thought Dawn or Misty would meet is out of their minds. The only chance for that to happen was back in DP when Dawn was a main character.

Dawn obviously appeared in DP themed arcs, and when Misty gets a cameo she'll probably just be paired with Brock again like in SM. They would never have Misty and Dawn appear at the same time. There's also no incentive, like why that over Misty meeting Iris, or Dawn meeting Serena, or something like that? Misty and Dawn have nothing in common.

Seems like Ash is going to beat Marnie. No idea why they didn't at least give Marnie/Piers a full intro episode before the battle. Sure Marnie could appear in a random episode, but their battling or potential rivalry will be over. It really was a waste of not introducing Piers/Marnie earlier in the series and seeing her built up a bit, and then getting a 3 on 3 here. She's hard to rank because she doesn't have a goal, we don't see her come up against any kind of difficulty or struggle, and she doesn't have anything that she needs to practice, learn about, or overcome. I unironically think she's the worst character they've ever come up with, because not only does she lack direction and drive, but she's a bore. If she was smug and judgmental like she seemed to be at the outset of the series, she'd at least be providing some form of entertainment or friction for Ash & Goh to go up against, but now she isn't even mildly antagonistic. She's just really nice and loves her Eevee. It's definitely a letdown, as I had high hopes for her. I'm very surprised she turned out as bad as she did.

That'd be fine if her aimlessness was given any kind of specific focus as a concept, but they really didn't do that, they just gave her an Eevee with the vague idea to 'meet all the Eevee evolutions' and then... ????

The way she goes about her life would be more interesting if she had retained any of her funny character traits from the beginning of the series, but this is the modern Pokemon company. Koharu making snide comments and not being impressed by Ash & Go were 'flaws' that needed to be scrubbed away so she could finally be 'nice'. I am genuinely baffled as to what her role is if she isn't the slightly-annoyed straightman to Ash & Go. She's not the smart one, Go is. She's not the headstrong one, Ash & Go both are. She's not funny, she doesn't have insecurities, she's just.. what the fuck is she???

I've gone from hoping each appearance would fix her to genuine dread when she comes along for an episode. Her being boring is one thing, but for whatever reason, it spreads to Ash & Go as well. When Koharu comes along, Ash & Go don't use their reserves, they're slow to act, and they don't get into funny hijinks, they just participate in ''''the plot''''.

Guy, how does that justify her existence as a quality contribution to the fictitious show of Pokemon? A character enjoying doing things does not equal entertainment. These characters aren't real and don't need to tag along to enjoy things and feel good, they exist to be entertaining and fill some kind of role in each episode. All Koharu ever does these days is smile and stare gape-jawed at Eevee when it uses copycat. She doesn't interact with either of our main characters, ever, she has no success on the horizon that we can cheer her on for, and she lacks any kind of identity when put up against the series long history of entertaining and unique companions.

She's there to represent the casual periphery demographic of Pokémon I guess, the kind that likes the art and merch but isn't into the games. Her father is a professor, her mother draws fanart and her brother is to be a trainer, so her arc is just coming to terms with existing in a world where pokémon lives and appreciate that. Never mind that it equals with someone coming to terms with cats being cute, it's just a very shallow coming of life story. also nta.
