I couldn't finish SWSH and I never bought BDSP. PLA has saved pokemon imo. If the catching and seamless battles don't carry over to the next game its dead on arrival as far as I'm concerned.

New gens will take much longer to develop now that they are full AAA console games, rather than handheld titles.

Also consider that GameFreak has spent the past 3 years working full-time on PLA. They will have had no time to create anything other than maybe some very basic concepts for Gen 9. Full-time development on Gen 9 will have only just started very recently with PLA being wrapped up.

This is exactly why they will release SwSh 2, as it will be a quick side-project to drop in the intervening time. SwSh 2 = Holiday 2022 and then another side-game will release in 2023 before Gen 9 in 2024.

yeah
if it's not as smooth as PLA it goes to trash. I do hope they bring back the old damage formula/battle engine though, Volo final battle made me realize that a game with gyms and PvP with PLA's battle system might be shit, though probably harder
