It's also only getting DLC now because originally, they had no intentions of doing so. The coof and chip shortages set back Nintendo badly enough that they can't possibly develop, announce and reveal a new platform yet, thus meaning they can't make Mario Kart 9 on the next platform to start the profit cycle all over again, and they want to make the absolute most out of MK8D, Animal Crossing, Zelda and Pokemon while they're still stuck with Switch.
