I've used this in a couple of fights I did in runs with shitmons. Both it and mud sport are extremely situational of course, but they can ahve their uses. Not all moves have to be a mainstream consideration.

Regardless, it's pretty clear they removed as many redundant moves as possible, or changed them to eliminate redundancy. EQ as it is would just be a better Headlong Rush. Bulldoze is balanced because you trade damage for delaying the opponent's turn, and Headlong Rush is balanced because it's a Ground-type Close Combat that lowers your defense when you use it. Between those two moves EQ can't exist without making one of them obsolete, which is why it's gone.

Isn’t water sport a permanent effect? It would be handy on a grass type and I think budew could learn it. Otherwise i see it as one of those early game moves you replace, which is fair, it gives a fair sense of progression. I think its weirder that mostly water types seem to learn this move tho, like I don’t see a good reason why they couldn’t put it on things that could actually take advantage of it.

They could have just changed its BP. Power isn't the reason they omitted a move that's been a series staple since gen 1. The seamless battle transitions, the invariable way a move called earthquake must be conveyed, and the decision to omit multi-hit moves are more pertinent.
I agree that they made good use of existing moves to replace EQ, though.

Water Sport mainly suffers from it being almost entirely exclusive to Water types when they already resist Fire, but it does improve their resistance even more at least.

Mud Sport has it both better and worse since it reduces Electric damage when Ground types are already immune anyway... but unlike Water Sport it's not as type-exclusive - you can breed it onto a whole bunch of Water types which does help them.

There are plenty of 90 BP moves that have either no secondary effect, or a positive one, such as lowering the opponents stats or a high crit ratio. EQ could've easily been put in unaltered or dropped to 95 or 90 BP for this one game.

Water and Mud Sport should be better than light screen or reflect. Maybe instead of negating damage by half they negate it by 3/4ths or something.
Maybe they also buff water or ground moves too.
That way they still have flavor and a niche.

Bind should be a rock or ground type wrap. Maybe do the stealth rock thing where on subsequent turns it still does se damage.
