they specifically establish that the galarian bird trio are a total mystery and are only referred to as articuno, zapdos, and moltres because of their resemblance. they could be regional variants or could be completely different pokemon, no one knows.

and yes, legendary pokemon aren't always unique. it differs depending on which ones you're talking about.

The regional variants only really make sense with their Japanese names, Freezer, Thunder and Fire.
The first because its psychic beams could freeze people, the second because its feathers sound like electricity, the third because its aura resembled fire.
Ancient Galarians were retards who mistook their signature feats as that of the standard birds, and as such they were given those names, and for a long time were thought to be different species until it became clear they were regional variations.

I think the Galarian legendaries (besides the Kubfu line and Zarude), the Gen 5 & maybe 6 box legends, the manmade mythicals, and maybe Mewtwo are the only ones who are one-of-a-kind because of how tied they are to their backstories. Maybe Arceus too if it only breaks off one part of itself at a time.

Confirmed where and by who. GF almost never acknowledges bugs so I don't know who you're getting your confirmation from.

Remember for years it was thought that sterile Nidoqueen is a bug, but it turned out that GF had a deeplore reason for this that never got translated? You can't assume that a thing doesn't make sense so its a bug with GF

The birds, mew, the beasts, lugia, ho-oh, celebi, the regis, latios/as, deoxys, heatran, manaphy, phione, shaymin, victini, meloeta, all the ultra beasts, cosmog’s line, hoopa, diancie, zarude, meltan, melmetal, kubfua/ursaluna, and maybe eternatus are not unique. They are rare, long lived pokemon that have largely avoided humans and possess the power to radically alter the world around them. Some of them have associated folklore but they pop up too often to be unique. Deoxys and eternatus are aliens, there are probably more of them where the first ones cane from
