BW was the first time in over a decade that the games actually felt fresh.
They went back to the simplistic roots of Gen 1/2 by removing the HM slug that haunted 3/4 and replaced the same old Zubat and Geodude lines that plagued those games too.
The story wasn’t such stupid larger than life story about Gods that can shape the world or universe, just a man who wanted power and was willing to manipulate N to do it.
The designs weren’t great but not any worse than the shitshow that was Sinnoh, the majority of people who complained about them at the time just compared Trubbish with Charizard and said “why are designs so bad these days”.
