WHY IS THE RANDOM ENCOUNTER RATE SO HIGH???

Why do I run into a random encounter literally every few steps in this game? The rate is jacked WAY up from every other Pokemon game I've played. Trying to get through caves in this is TORTURE.

Pretty sure the encounter rate is the same, it's just the way steps are calculated in BDSP that's fucked. The game still uses tiles to track steps despite letting you use 8-directional movement, and hitting a corner of a tile can make your step counter shoot up like 2-3 steps. This winds up fucking with the encounter rate, since you're not supposed to get into an encounter for a few steps after the previous encounter ends.
