Did you miss the blatant Yokai Watch inspiration last gen? Or the Dragon Quest/MegaTen/Godzilla series inspiration throughout the first gen? This franchise has unapologetically pulled from other franchises since its inception, it just happens to be wildly more successful than any of the things it's ripping off.
Heck, this isn't even the first time they've ripped off Monster Hunter in particular, Megas Aerodactyl and Sceptile are what you get when you combine the original Pokemon with Rathian and Green Nargacuga, respectively.
