>>49610680I used to agree with this at least when talking collectively but after reflecting on it I think that Gen 4 was an objective improvement from Gen 3, but each generation was slightly less than an upgrade from the previous. Sort of like a Fibonacci sequence.
Gen 1 is objectively inferior in every way and everyone aside from blind genwunners can see this, but it does have a unique charm that the other gens do not, at least none of the ones post Gen 2.
Gen 2 is overrated by some because it wasn't as great as people remember because HGSS has replaced their memories. But overall the generation is underappreciated by most and the target of a lot of disinfo from bad actors wanting to discredit it to prop up other generations while providing cover for GF to never pull a Gen 2 ever again.
Gen 3 started off poor and most people have forgotten this but the generation got better towards the end and aged well afterwards. One of the biggest innovations of the series to date.
Gen 4 didn't break a whole lot of new ground but it brought everything back together including the lost Gen 2 features while maintaining the integrity of Gen 3. It had a poor introductory game and while the problems of RS were easily fixed with new entries, aside from the technical difficulties DP's problems were baked in, like the weird Pokemon designs, bland characters, HMs etc. But what really helped it was two releases that were otherwise very solid (Platinum and HGSS)
Gen 5 was overall only marginally better than Gen 4 and maybe a "side grade"
>>49611614 to use this term, but for many shitposters BW's flaws are overblown and BW2 are just outright ignored. Gen 5 would have been significantly better that Gen 4 for me but there was only one serious release in that generation, but it was firmly better than both Platinum and HGSS for me.
