I wouldn't mind having both. Boss battles need to be a bit better though. They're too easy and a little jank at times. I could never initiate the battle with Avalugg.

Not at all, was the worst part of PLA. Totems are better, gyms are better, Alphas are better and the core games focus on trainers anyway.

I don't see why they can't both exist. Gym Leaders are the bosses in towns and cities, the overworld Pokemon encounters could be bosses in places like forests or on routes. I think people are having a weird "take it or leave it" stance on a lot of stuff in Legends without even considering the possibility of them coexisting

These battles were so disappointing, the balm throwing shouldn’t be included.
They should’ve just had a larger emphasis on dueling with them instead. Also catching them should’ve been an option, story was gay anyway.
Also how the fuck is an electrode suppose to be the guardian of coronet highlands? Just push it down the mountain and watch it struggle not to roll it’s way off to death. It’s not guarding shit.

I'd honestly much prefer it this way, especially if they add elements of Totem Battles in the battle stages and have them summon different helpers to facilitate different tactics each time you fight them, with them getting stronger as their overall hp lowers (like how their attack patterns change at half or 1/3 of their hp).

It's honestly so much more compelling than the gym fights, especially after doing the post-game rematch versions when I wasn't hideously overlevelled.

I personally like it this way and hope it comes back but I think they should emphasize more on being able to choose how you want to fight it. It would be great if you could throw a mon into the arena and initiate a traditional turn based battle but if you like the action combat you could just walk up to it and it would play like legends. I hope they change it from balms though, although i dont know how they could rework that

Human vs. Pokemon battles made sense from a "hardly anyone during this time period really knew how to handle Pokemon" standpoint, but I don't see this happening in a modern day setting unless you were playing as a villainous organization like Team Rocket or you're part of the Pokemon Rangers

Combee, Zubat, Beedrill, Unown and Carvana are all mons that could make use of a gimmick like that.

I think we should have all these, gyms, alphas/totems and baddies to fight. More battles with different styles the better.

While I really like the idea of having “boss mons” I dont want them to replace gym fights. A tough trainer with 4-5 high leveled Pokemon is a fun challenge and should stick around in future games.
But honestly Pokemon should have also incorporated traditional boss battles a long time ago. You should have to fight legendary mons like Suicune / Rayquaza BEFORE you get a chance to catch them, otherwise every “epic encounter” just boils down to sleep spam + 60 Ultra Balls or instant Master Ball.
But this should only be the case for legendaries / mythicals. I dont need two “boss fights” against a fucking Snorlax

Hell, that was the Avalugg fight for me. I died twice because I was so fucking desperate to finish the fight ASAP that I tried to do max DPS even with the shitty camera working against me

All gyms need to do to be better is making them themed without being monotype and actually let them have a usable number of pokemon. A desert themed gym leader with at least 4-5 pokemon like Sigilyph, Cacturne, Camerupt, Drapion, and Sandslash for example. It's really all monotype shit and bad AI that almost never switches that makes the games piss easy. That plus shift mode. Almost every goddamn trainer in the games has a monotype team and I'm sick of it. Why the hell are the E4 even monotype

There needs to be more trainer battles in the next game, especially ones that feel important. Gym battles I wouldn't mind seeing the end of personally, I'm more than done with them at this point.

You can implement "boss battles" through the traditional battle system, and they have already more than once, so I'd like to see them do it well because they've actually gotten close with both totem pokemon and alpha pokemon in different ways. i-frame dodging very simple attack patterns bears no resemblance to any element of pokemon's core gameplay or the fantasy it tries to evoke, it's just a gimmicky minigame.

Maybe not replace Gyms but I would like for them to handle the Legendaries/Mythicals the same with them being mini bosses. Just give them health gauges so you can’t simply cheese it with Apricorns and Mudballs.

The main legendary trios however should definitely be boss battles the same way as they are in Legends, just with an alternative to balms.

However, I see battles like those are Heatran, Darkrai, Enamorus replacing the usual Legendary battles.
Just don't make them as easy to catch lol. camping and throwing Fether Balls broke the immersion super hard

Nah. They do need to do stuff to make sure Gym Battles have some impact, and what they did in SWSH worked well enough. Steamrolling a gym is a lame experience, Dynamax made it so the Gym had something particularly impressive and it was unlikely that you'd one-shot it. (Coalossal notwithstanding)

The Arceus battle was the only good one and even that used the shockwave + meteor strike attack too much. It using shadow force was very cool
