>>49631320Since Hoenn was largely a failure Sinnoh was the game where a lot of moden Pokemon was codified. It was the first to have a significant overarching story with characters and dialogue the way modern Pokemon does. Because of this, it's easier to reach back to Sinnoh for characters and plot points to build off of, especially in comparison to Kanto and Johto since they're so limited in scope.
As for what's going on this year though, BDSP and PLA are just anomolies. This was always going to be a Sinnoh year since it's the Sinnoh remake year, but they're also at a crossroads in development. They couldn't make PLA the "real remake" because they needed to experiment, so they shopped out a half-assed one to a middleman.
